Despertares Baja Recovery provides voluntary residential addiction treatment in Baja California near the San Ysidro border crossing. Medical detox, individual, group and family therapy, and dual-diagnosis care are offered in English and Spanish.
Residential Treatment
Despertares Baja Recovery offers voluntary residential addiction treatment in Baja California, with programs of 30, 60 or 90 days. Clinical assessment determines the appropriate starting level of care before a program is confirmed. Individual, group and family therapy are combined with medical supervision, nursing and a structured daily routine.
The residential areas and therapeutic groups for men and women are separate. The men’s program includes groups addressing addiction, anger management, family relationships and social roles, while family therapy brings loved ones into the treatment process.
Medical Detox
Medical detox generally spans 5–10 days and begins with a clinical history, vital-sign assessment and a plan tailored to the substance used and duration of use. Withdrawal management includes medication, hydration, continuous monitoring and nursing support around the clock. Detox can lead into the residential phase.
Detox protocols cover alcohol, opioids including fentanyl, methamphetamine, benzodiazepines and polysubstance use. The protocol is chosen case by case. When detox is needed within the residential program, it is included without a separate detox charge.
Dual Diagnosis and Mental Health
The dual-diagnosis program addresses substance use alongside anxiety, depression or trauma. It includes a psychiatric evaluation at admission, dedicated psychiatry sessions and medication management, together with cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma-informed individual therapy. Medical detox is included when needed.
Family Participation
Family therapy is included in residential care. A communication plan with loved ones is prepared from the first day, and family visits take place on scheduled days. Family orientation can support an admission decision, while entry to the residential program remains voluntary.
Aftercare and Continued Support
Aftercare and telehealth are part of the residential offer. For people returning to the United States, the dual-diagnosis program includes a continuity-of-care plan covering records, referrals and telehealth.
Accommodation and Facilities
Accommodation and meals are included in the residential program. A private-room upgrade is available for the dual-diagnosis stay. Residential areas are separated for men and women, and the men’s accommodation includes a private bathroom with a bathtub.
The facility has a two-storey white residence, a courtyard swimming pool, a covered terrace and an area with exercise equipment. The kitchen has a stove, microwave and coffee maker; meals are prepared daily.
Daily Life and Activities
The men’s program combines physical activity, a structured routine and complete meals. Sports outings are part of the daily-life offer.
Optional Faith Support
An optional faith track adds Bible study, prayer groups and chaplaincy to the medical treatment program. Coordination with a person’s pastor or religious community is available when requested. Participation is a personal choice: care does not depend on religious belief, and faith support does not replace medical detox or therapy.
Clinical Team
Daniel Ochoa directs the clinical program as a psychologist. Luis Enrique Dorantes Marinez handles psychiatric and medical management, and psychologist Lizzbeth provides individual and group therapy. Medical detox has physician oversight and nursing support around the clock.
